Environmental Benefits of Recycling Scrap Metal

At Second Street Iron and Metal Co in Everett, Massachusetts we provide metal scraping services to both businesses and individuals alike.  It is a great symbiotic relationship. Our clients get rid of unwanted metals, both ferrous and non-ferrous metals alike. Our clients then receive money in return for their materials. We then receive recycled metals that can be repurposed.

We all know that recycling is good for the environment. When unwanted materials are repurposed instead of being discarded to take up place in a dump or landfill, it’s a win-win situation for the client, our company, and the earth.

Let’s take a look at the environmental benefits of recycling your scrap metal. According to research conducted by the E.P.A recycling scrap metals instead of producing brand new iron ore can yield:

  • 75% savings in energy
  • 90& savings in raw materials used
  • 86% reduction in air pollution
  • 40% reduction in air pollution
  • 40% reduction in water use
  • 76% reduction in water pollution
  • 97% reduction in mining waste

When you choose to take your unwanted metals to Second Street Iron & Metal in Everett you are both putting money back into your wallet, and helping to keep our planet greener.

It makes sense that recycling scrap metal would be good for the environment and beneficial to use and repurpose. Having lots of leftover metal that could be used to make new cars or other items would be incredibly helpful! That way you don't have nondegradable materials sitting in landfills.

Thanks for the information on how research has shown that metal recycling can help the environment by reducing air pollution by 86% and many other benefits. This would be important to avoid problems with the environment and to make sure we have enough material for everything we do. Since this is the case, you'd probably want to research the different metal recycling companies so that you can find one that will do everything properly so that you can help as much as possible.

It got me when you said that recycling metal so that it can be used for other purposes is a win-win situation for everyone involved since it won't take up a place in the dump. That is the reason why I have decided that for the shed that we will build, I will ask the professional to use recycled metal to build it. We've learned our lesson when we were affected by the flood, I know that part of that was caused by discarding metal in places that it shouldn't be. We don't want that to happen again.

My washer and dryer stopped working a few years ago and they have been sitting in my basement for a while. It is my goal to get rid of these appliances in the next few weeks and I did not realize there are so many benefits of recycling these appliances instead of sending them to a landfill. You make a great point that it will not only save energy but also help air and water pollution! This would definitely be a simple and environmentally-friendly way to get rid of my old metal appliances.
